Day out in London

Had a great day out in London today with Shawna and Neil, who are back from brainwashing poor Indians and will shortly be back in Canada. Shawna's hoping to get her "Chatterbox" cafe/debating forum off the ground soon, I can't wait to hear how it goes. I also met her Canadian friend Kaytlyn and her Swedish boyfriend (can't think how to spell his name...?) - I could have *sworn* I'd met both of them before, but when I got back and looked her up on facebook, I couldn't recognise any of her friends. Bizarre deja vu. I'm looking forward to paying them back for buying me dinner :)

Hey Baz,
Nice to see the picture we took up on your blog. It's a great shot isn't it?
I was just reading your blog and wanted to clarify one point as I'm sorry to disappoint you but unfortunately Neil and I couldn't even speak the language to brain wash anyone...us poor Christians were left with little to do. Ha, ha. But pray. All we could do really was observe and think how to categorize the amazing things we saw happen before our very eyes. We went on this trip with people from these countries so we weren't going to Westernize them or anything like that. It was their desire to speak to their fellow men and we simply witnessed whatever happened and then shared the stories, from our perspective, with our family and friends...I would sincerly never want to brainwash anyone because if someone doesn't truly, truly believe in Christ, there won't be any point in them 'playing' Christian. It would be like me saying I'm a soccer player because I wear the uniform, but never playing a game and never enjoying any goals or the benefits of the sport. So who cares about the uniform? Maybe it's a hike to think we, I anyhow (I guess I'll just speak to me) wouldn't want to persuade someone. That doesn't mean I'll talk less about what I believe, because I believe it so how could I not, but I don't believe in brainwashing. Even when I became a Christian I had left the faith because I had to find out for myself whether it was the truth or not. I didn't want to believe it just because that's the religion I was born into, and I refused to let anyone talk me into it. I had to find my own way, wherever the journey took me, all I wanted was the truth and I wasn't willing to sacrifice my integrity to make someone happy by telling them I believed in something I really wasn't sure about. Eventually, through a much longer story, I knew this was the truth I had been looking for, but I had to find it on my own. So, I hope you would never feel like those are ever our intensions. Even with going to these countries, many times it is to encourage the Christians who are already there. Sometimes through those encouragements other people come to also believe in Christ, but that's not because we bribe them or force them or anything like that. Maybe it would be good for you to go on a trip like this to see for yourself. It would certainly give you even more to write about :) Anyway, I hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts, but since it was about me I thought it was worth clarifying our actual intentions and what we really did in India. Hope you're okay with me challenging the thought as you are always welcome to challenge mine. Love you, Shawna PS - Kaytlyn's bf's name is "Per" :)
